We're getting motivated to start the semester with a seven-song tribute to all things school-related.
SONG OF THE monDAY
Back to School Again was recorded by the Four Tops for the soundtrack to the 1982 movie, Grease 2. The song was released with a B-side of Rock-A-Hula-Luau (Summer Is Coming). It spent seven weeks on the charts, peaking at No. 71 Billboard Hot 100.
SONG OF THE tuesDAY
Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard was written by Paul Simon and released as the second single from his 1972 album, Paul Simon. Simon and Garfunkel performed the song as a duet live in 1981. That version appears on their 1982 album, The Concert in Central Park.
SONG OF THE wednesDAY
Be True to Your School was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love and released in 1963 as the third single from the Beach Boys album, Little Deuce Coupe. It features a tribute to the Hawthorne High School fight song, which uses the melody of the University of Wisconsin’s On, Wisconsin!.

SONG OF THE thursDAY
The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades is from Timbuk3’s 1986 album, Greetings from Timbuk3. Audiences misunderstood the lyrics to be a positive perspective on the future, a graduation theme song, but in reality, its meaning is intended to be a grim outlook due to nuclear holocaust.
SONG OF THE friDAY
Rock ‘N’ Roll High School is by the Ramones. Released as a single in 1979 from the soundtrack album, Rock ‘N’ Roll High School, the song didn’t chart in the US but peaked at 67 in the UK. It’s been covered by Alvin and the Chipmunks and used in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days.
SONG OF THE saturDAY
Written by Rostam Batmanglij and Ezra Koenig, Campus is by Vampire Weekend from their 2008 album, Vampire Weekend. Though the album was a success, Campus was never released as a single. Many speculate about the lyrics, but we just think it's a good jam, whatever the meaning.
SONG OF THE sunDAY
Closer to Fine is from the Indigo Girls's 1989 album, Indigo Girls. The song landed on the Billboard Hot 100, Adult Contemporary, Mainstream Rock, and Modern Rock charts. it is one of the duo's most frequently performed songs and is often ends their closing number.
