Turmeric is one of the most well-researched natural substances we have access to. Its effects are unparalleled in nearly all domains to do with wellness and healing. This root is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants. Its anti-inflammatory uses are unparalleled in the world of medicinal substances.

What a wonder that nature has given us such a powerful plant ally to cope with high rates of modern disease without the nasty side effects we see from the alternatives like chemotherapy and NSAID and overuse of antibiotics.

Apples of Your Eye

With their amazing health benefits and delicious taste it’s no wonder the world celebrates apples for the entire month of October.

In honor of National Apple Month here are four reasons why they say an apple a day helps keep the doctor away.

1.     Nutrition

Packing in quite a bit of soluble fiber (4 grams per medium apple) for a modest amount of calories (95) makes apples a filling, sweet snack.

Plus, a medium apple counts as 1 cup of fruit, so after eating one you’re well on your way to meeting your daily fruit quota (around 2 cups for adults on a 2,000-calorie diet).

They also are a good source of immune-boosting vitamin C (providing 14% of the Daily Value).

2.     Weight Loss

Apples satisfy hunger for few calories so it’s not surprising that they can be used to help you lose weight. Apples are full of antioxidants and pectin (a type of fiber), which are the reason they’re so good at curbing your appetite.

3.     Heart health

Antioxidants found in apples are also good for your heart’s health because they help prevent LDL cholesterol from oxidizing and inhibit inflammation. The soluble fiber in apples has also been shown to lower cholesterol levels.

4.     Exercise longer

Eating an apple before you work out may boost your exercise endurance. Apples deliver an antioxidant called quercetin, which aids endurance by making oxygen more available to the lungs.

September is National Honey Month! Honey is not only delightful treat but it has a few health benefits to sweeten the deal.

Honey has an unusual chemical composition that makes it keep indefinitely without spoiling. It is uniquely low in moisture and extremely acidic, making it a forbidding environment for bacteria and microorganisms.

On top of that, bees add an enzyme, glucose oxidase, which creates hydrogen peroxide as a byproduct. According to the National Institute of Health, honey is hygroscopic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and has remarkable debriding action.

Leukemia

Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow, the spongy center of bones where our blood cells are formed. The disease develops when blood cells produced in the bone marrow grow out of control.

An estimated 48,610 new cases of leukemia were diagnosed in the United States in 2013.

Lymphoma

Lymphoma is the name for a group of blood cancers that develop in the lymphatic system. The two main types are Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL

In 2013, about 731,277 people are living with lymphoma or are in remission (no sign of the disease). This number includes about 172,937 people with Hodgkin lymphoma and 558,340 people with NHL.

Myeloma

Myeloma is a type of cancer that begins in the bone marrow. It affects the plasma cells.

Myeloma has several forms:
  • Multiple myeloma is most common: More than 90 percent of people with myeloma have this type. Multiple myeloma affects several different areas of the body.
  • Plasmacytoma - only one site of myeloma cells evident in the body, such as in the bone, skin, muscle, or lung.
  • Localized myeloma - a few neighboring sites evident.
  • Extramedullary myeloma - involvement of tissue other than bone marrow, such as skin, muscles or lungs.

Doctors divide myeloma into groups that describe how rapidly or slowly the disease is progressing:

  • Asymptomatic or smoldering myeloma progresses slowly and has no symptoms even though the patient has the disease.
  • Symptomatic myeloma has related symptoms such as anemia, kidney damage and bone disease.
