Lose the Red Meat and Fried Food

Most of us are aware of the health risks red meat and fried foods pose to our hearts. Although fried food and red meat is loaded with saturated fat, and processed meat like bacon can lead to cardiovascular disease, for many, we simply can’t help ourselves.

You want to try to cut red meat and fried foods out of your diet as much as possible, but if you can’t do away with it completely, then you should treat red meat and fried foods more like a treat rather than nightly staples at your dinner table.

Here are 5 foods that are heart-healthy and delicious.

1.     Fruits and Vegetables

A heart-healthy diet is a fruit and vegetable-based diet.

Vegetables like asparagus, broccoli, carrots, spinach, acorn squash, and red bell peppers are all rich in Beta-carotene and fiber. For fruits try blueberries, oranges, cantaloupe, and papayas.

2.     Nuts

Almonds and walnuts make for great snacks to help curb hunger or to give you a boost of energy. Packed with Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E, these gems are ideal for your heart’s health.

3.     Salmon

Salmon is also packed with Omega-3 fatty acids and is a hearty and protein-packed super food for your heart. Salmon is flexible and can be prepared a variety of ways.

4.     Black or Kidney Beans

Full of fiber and Omega-3 fatty acids, beans are a wonderful addition to soups and salads.

5.     Oatmeal

A hearty breakfast staple, oatmeal is good for your heart because it’s packed with fiber, calcium, and Omega-3 fatty acids. Add some berries on top and you’ve got the ideal start to a healthy day.

Other heart-healthy foods include tomatoes, tofu, brown rice, tea, and dark chocolate.

Heart-healthy foods are easy to incorporate into your family’s menu and can make meals not only delicious, but heart-healthy, too.
