The winner of the 2011 Independence Day haiku contest is Malana Means with her entry "Freedom." In addition to having her haiku published, Means received a $5 gift card to the produce stand on Hoof Highway 221.
"I am elated," Means said after being notified of her victory. "I can't wait to go to the produce stand. The fruits and vegetables there are grown with such love. You can really taste the difference."
Second place went to Joe Veteran for his submission "Rocket's Red Glare," and third place went to Penny Lane for her submission "Independence."
MAC would like to thank everyone who submitted a poem to this year's contest.
