London Summer Olympic Games 2012

As part of her research for the bid to be selected as the host city for the 2020 Olympic games, the Mayor announced today that she's going to London.

"If we're going to be a serious contender against Istanbul, Tokyo, and Madrid we've got to do our research," the Mayor said. "We have until September 2013 to wow the IOC, and I think they're going to be very impressed with Mooseville and all it has to offer."

We caught up with the Mayor at Globetrotter Travel where she was finishing up some last minute reservations. When asked how Mooseville would be able to play host for such a large event as the Olympic games, the Mayor was hesitant to nail down a specific answer.

"I don't know," she said. "That's why we're researching, but I'm confident the good people of Mooseville will make excellent hosts for the world and its athletes."

As part of the Mayor's trip she plans to attend events, sample food, examine architecture, participate in entertainment, and analyze the media coverage and needs required to host an Olympic games.

"This isn't a vacation," the Mayor said. "I'll be working with the Mooseville Journal Record and the business owners on Moose Street to help strum up excitement about the Olympic games in our community. I think it's important to have Moosevillian's support as we move forward with our plans to win the bid for the 2020 games."

When asked if she thought Mooseville would be ready by 2020 the Mayor shrugged. "Maybe 2024. Either way, we'll give it our best shot."

In the Mayor's absence Mooseville residents can be assured that business will run as usual.

"I'm leaving City Council and my staff in good hands," the Mayor promised.

Due to a phone call she had to suddenly take, the Mayor was unable to tell us exactly who would be steering the ship while she was away.

When the Mayor's aide was pressed for an answer she said she wasn't at liberty to say, but the look on her face said it all.

With the exception of the MRT consistently running, the SAM exhibit changing, and there being less rain, there is nothing of news value to report from Singapore-la. It's pretty much the same. See you.

Singapore December Report

1/13/2012

This past December, depending on the time and day, the MRT may or may not have worked (apparently that is still the case), but the PIE and ECP stayed fairly clear of congestion, FYI.

Ben Coolen is now a two-way street, confusing taxi drivers dropping off guests at the Hotel Rendezvous.

It rained all but three days.

Moodique rocked out every weekend at the Raffles Hotel.

21SoulBlaze released "The Road Less Taken," although Singapore Cowboy was the find of the year.

Senso Ristorante and Bar was discovered. Dinning on the patio is highly recommended.

They do not have a full bar at The Fisherman's Market at Clarke Quay, but they do have unlimited soft drinks, coffee, and tea refills. This restaurant does not come highly recommended, and the mussels should be avoided at all cost.

The "milk machine" at Brussels Sprouts was on the fritz, but you could still get milk for your coffee if you were persistent and were okay with using cold milk to flavor your brew.

The MT Club has Chinese Karaoke and a pool table but a limited selection on drinks.

There was an energetic street musician in the tunnel between Clarke Quay and Boat Quay.

Business closings were moderate. V-Golf Sports Bar is no longer open. The Wendy's on Orchard Road was still in business, but flooding persists. Dars chocolate is no longer sold at the 7-Eleven next to Cathay, but you can buy it by the case at Meidi-Ya Supermarket at Liang Court Mall in Clarke Quay. The world's tallest indoor via ferrata climbing wall, The Border X is still operating inside Orchard Central, but its gift shop has moved to Climb Asia on Tessensohn Road.

Artistically-painted elephants paraded around Singapore this holiday season, replacing gaudy Christmas decorations in most places, minus Orchard Road and in front of popular malls.

Netball took the country, and the Hotel Rendezvous, by storm. It was Fiji and Singapore in the championship game with Fiji nudging out Singapore, 51-42, for the title.

Singaporean youth are still trying to do skateboard tricks on long boards.

Did we mention the MRT kept breaking down?

We apologize for the tardiness in issuing the December Singapore Report. We will release the March Singapore report in a much more timely manner.

May Report from Singapore

6/4/2011

There was some political change.

The Workers' Party gained a little ground over the People's Action Party (PAP) in Singapore's 16th parliamentary general election on May 7.

Minister Mentor, Lee Kuan Yew; Senior Minister, Goh Chok Tong; Transport Minister and Second Foreign Affairs Minister, Raymond Lim; Deputy Prime Minister, Wong Kan Seng; and National Development Minister, Mah Bow Tan stepped down.

The weather didn't change.

It was still hot and humid, but a few times it rained very hard. So hard, it felt like it was raining inside.

Vesak Day was observed on May 17.

Happy birthday, Buddha.

Construction was happening.

The Subway sandwich stand moved to a more spacious facility on the other side of the SMU campus but is still in walking distance from the Hotel Rendezvous.

Every floor of the Hotel Rendezvous was being renovated, but excessive drilling only happened between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

MDIS, Dhoby Ghaut location and Plaza Singapura were also getting facelifts.

Premiere Football is moving from Orchard Central Mall to a mall across the street that also has "Orchard" in its name.

There's a new bus stop in front of Dan Ryan's, 91 Tanglin Road.

A Popeye's Chicken is now open in Cathay.

Spices of India is now closed.

North Face in Suntec is now closed.

Balaclava is now Tang Dian Wang Shanghai Restaurant.

This Month's Find: Tanjong-La

Not as busy as Palawan and Siloso Beach, Tanjong Beach is a relaxing change of pace from an otherwise hectic Singapore.

The Tanjong Beach Club is an excellent place to have dinner. I recommend the seafood sampler, a smorgasbord of delights including oysters, salmon, prawns, lobster, and crab. Muy delicioso.

Then after dinner, try hanging out with friends on a cabana and enjoying drinks while listening to somewhat decent music.

More importantly, you don't have to wade through tons of puking partiers when you go to the bathroom. Gracias, A Dios.
