Tying a good knot comes in handy when you're in the great outdoors, but tying a good knot takes practice. Picking the right knot is an even trickier skill to master.

The best way to learn how to tie knots is to practice, and the best way to learn more about knots is research.

A good place to start is to check out some animated tutorials, give it a Google search, and there's always YouTube.

    FIRE TIP

    Picture

Place your wood in a teepee shape to allow air to circulate better. This will help the fire start quicker and burn stronger.

Food attracts animals and bugs. Pack it up. At night put it in your car or tie it to a tree limb away from your tent.

    SAFETY TIP

If it rains set out a pot or bottle to catch it.

You can use rain to bathe, cook, or drink.

    SHELTER TIP

Put a tarp under your tent to protect from tears. The less penetrable your shelter, the better.
