SONG OF THE monDAY
Fast Car was written and recorded by Tracy Chapman for her 1988 self-titled debut album. After Chapman appeared on Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute, Fast Car soared to #6 on Billboard Hot 100. The song received two Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

SONG OF THE tuesDAY
Steppenwolf’s Magic Carpet Ride was released in 1968 as the lead single from the album, The Second. The song peaked at #3 on Billboard Hot 100. In 1988, Steppenwolf rerecorded Magic Carpet Ride with Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five for their reunion album, On the Strength.

SONG OF THE wednesDAY
Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go) is from the 2001 Garbage album, Beautiful Garbage. Though it didn't chart in the US, it was a big hit in Australia, Italy, the UK, and elsewhere. Cherry Lips is featured in PlayStation 2 Amplitude and portions of royalties are donated to the International Red Cross.

SONG OF THE thursDAY
Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now was recorded by Starship for the 1987 movie, Mannequin. Nominated for an Academy Award, the song hit #1 on Billboard Hot 100 and made Grace Slick, at age 47, the oldest woman to have a #1 hit in the US. That record was beat by Cher's Believe in 1999. She was 52.

One of the most influential songs of the late 60s, Sly and the Family Stone's Dance to the Music was released in 1968. The song was their first hit in the US, peaking at #8 on Billboard Pop Singles. It also launched psychedelic soul into the mainstream, thus influencing generations of musicians.

SONG OF THE saturDAY
Released in 1976, You Should Be Dancing is from the Bee Gees album, Children of the World. It is one of six songs by the group that's featured on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. It was the first chart-topper where Barry Gibb used his now-famous falsetto in a lead vocal.

SONG OF THE sunDAY
Sister Christian was released in 1984 from Night Ranger's album, Midnight Madness. The song was the band's biggest hit, peaking at No. 5 on Billboard Hot 100. It was written by drummer Kelly Keagy for his sister, Christy. The lyric was Sister Christy, but band members heard 'Christian' instead.
