Gloria Steinem made a surprise visit to Mooseville last week to discuss the Mayor's latest proposal of doing away with gender pronouns as part of the education process in schools.
"Ms. Steinem has been an inspiration to not just females, but anyone who believes in fair and equal treatment of humans," said the Mayor. "We were ecstatic to have her in Mooseville."
Steinem is a known feminist, activist, and journalist. According to Steinem, doing away with gender pronouns is one key to equal rights for women all over the world.
"Doing away with he/she pronouns is a must for equal treatment," Steinem said. "We've come a long way...but things always get worse before they get better. We can see things getting worse all around us, and that gives me great hope that we are standing at the edge of change."
Last month the Mayor proposed changes to Mooseville Public School's curriculum that would limit the use of pronouns in the classroom.
"We're all citizens of Mooseville. We don't feel it's necessary to distinguish our residents by gender."
The proposal will be voted on at next week's School Board meeting. The Mayor is expecting full support from the School Board member and has already started plans for incorporating the changes in next year's curriculum.
